So I was watching Definitely, Maybe the other day for the upteenth (2nd or 3rd but what does it matter) time and I came across this line that I missed the first few times I saw it.
Kelvin Kline who plays Prof. Hampton Roth quotes from his book:
"the most endangered species in our nation isn't the wood pecker or some fresh water fish. It's the tongues in our head"
That got me thinking. Although Prof. has a point there, I disagree. In my opinion, the most endangered species would have to be Originality. Yes, I siad it. It not lie that gone are the days when creativity was beased on pioneering thoughts...first of its kind type-of thinking.
Nowadays, we have come to settle with originality as one's ability to recycles already used ideas. now if you feel that scintilla of doubt building up, just take a look around you...from the music you love to the cars you drive and so on. You would see that originality is vanishing by the product.
Don't get me wrong, this wasn't done to downplay anyone's capabilities. There are still folks out there who are coming up with original ideas (see: Innespace Productions, Mike Salvini). And for that, I give them props. There are also folks out there whose recycled materials look original (see: kid Cudi, kanye West). I also give them props for that.
So the moral of this story is: "watch a chick flick every now and then. they could stirke up interesting thoughts".
