Ok so I was flipping through channels last night...something I haven't done in a while for the sole reason of not having cable at my apt. This fortunate night, I happened to be at a friends house.
Anyways, as I was obliviously going throught the channels, not having any particular station in mind considering I am not familiar with whats good on tv anymore, I stumbled upon this news channel with Obama in a graduation attire. Out of curiosity, I stayed on that station. From the prompt below, I was able to understand that this was the graduation ceremony for the class of 2009 at the university of Notre Dame. SO I sit there marveling at the awesomeness of having the president of the country be the guest speaker at one's graduation. As his excellency delivers his speech, something happens. He is interrrupted by one the many pro-life protesters who are outraged at the president stance on the issue of abortion. I am pro-speakyourmind and at the same time, a firm believer of 'there is a time for everything'. With that, I have to say this man's timing was a tad-bit off. He should have given this graudants the respect they deserved and watied till the end of the ceremony before he said whatever it was that couldn't wait. How embarrassed must the graduant related this protester have felt. Her/his thoughts probably went like this (oh s^!+!!! Here we go again. Dad/uncle O'Connor never knows when to keep his mouth shut.)
Anyways, I decided to follow the news (see: youtube) on this incident and derived that the focal point of this entire occurence was people's opinion on Notre Dame's choice of a guest speaker. However, that wasn't it for me. I was actually astounded at the president response to the event. This took me down memory lane to the times during the presidential campaign where alot of hating was thrown in this man's direction. What did he do in response to all the back talk, he brushed his shoulder's off and gave the opposition what she deserved. (gotta admit, not one of his proudest moments). I have to say not only is my president black (just had to put that in there) but he is really a cool dude. He is accustomed with the term "Hater Blockers" and definitely knows when to put then on. However, this lackadaisical attitude he shows towards threats gives me a bittersweet feeling. Sweet in the sense that I know he is not up for looking for trouble. Therefore, a possible good relationship will be built with foreign allies and hopefully opposition. But bitter in the sense that he, like the afore metioned protester, may have his timing off also and may not know when to be pro-active towards certain threats that are thrown his way on a personal and national level.
So from me to you, Obama ( whenever you get to this because I know you have various poilicies to handle) keep brushing them haters off. But be smart about it cuz you might never know.

P.S.
Before I go, I thought I should pose this question, " How ironic is it that a university most noteable for its catholicism choose a man who is against what they most ferverently stand for (abortion) to be their commencement speaker? Do you think it was an intentional act knowing that such upheaval would commence from it?
agghhh it is when things like these happen that you realize we are not going anywhere as a country. yaahhh barack obama is president...of course BIG DEAL...but it is when people like those protesters come around that he world is laughing saying..AMERICA you are still where you started... respect comes fourth not because you like someone or because you agree, but rather because what they are saying matters...look at our parents...
